The Colligo League will start soon when the men’s team kicks off later this week. We will be focusing on the men’s team until the women’s team join next month.
So until we see the women again, let’s pay tribute to the Lionesses, whose hard work brought back a major trophy to England’s shores. It was an immense effort, particulalrly after a poor start. However, let’s recognize some of the players who will take part in the Colligo League. Lucy Bronze (Chelsea) played with a broken tibia throughout the tournament, Hannah Hampton (Chelsea) and Ella Toone (Manchester United) both overcoming personal bereavements, and Leah Williamson (Arsenal) coming back from a potential career ending ACL injury. Let’s also look forward to Alessia Russo’s (Arsenal) goals will impact the Colligo League. There are many personal stories to focus on which support the hard work this team displayed. Also, a huge shout-out to the non-Colligo player, Jess Carter, who cast aside her doubters and overcame racism to provide an immense performance in the final.

There are many articles on the final, but Colligo wants to focus on the negativity seen by some men. Only a fool would try to highlight how the men’s team will beat the women’s teams. That’s not to say it couldn’t happen (remember the men’s Endland cricket team being beaten by the women’s team?). Let’s remember, that men’s football took decades to evolve and that took a lot of funding. Also let’s not forget, the women have to play under male conditons. Women have different body shapes and hence technique will be different. Women also have to play in the same size goal and the same weight of ball. Say next time the women’s game is criticized, remember it is a different sport, it will have different highs and lows. Man or woman, playing with a broken tibia, took heroic courage.
Personally the Women’s Euros showed us how more teams are getting stronger. I was personally impressed by strategic combat of Spain’s passing precision vs England’s (typically English) hard work and willingness to try exciting wing play.
As a final note… Colligo 2025-26 is about to start!
