No not the great 70s soul band. This is the top four of our three separate leagues! During the 2024/25 season, Colligo compared the WSL and PL top four finishes to the final Colligo standings.

The Women’s Super League

Let’s face it, Chelsea walked the WSL. They certainly have the backing to invest, but it could be argued that Arsenal and City have the capacity  to invest themselves, especially as there is a lot of quality in the depth of their squads. One has to feel a bit sorry for City with the injuries they have faced. Players like Lauren Hemp and Alex Greenwood faced injuries at crucial times. Still, City should have at least made a Champions League place. Arsenal faced manager turmoil during what was looking to be a failed season. However, newly appointed manager Renée Slegers gave the team a new impetus to eventually earn second place and avoid the Champions League qualifiers. Manchester United can celebrate achieving third. They do not have a strong depth in their squad, and injury to a single player can cost them a result. We saw this in the cup final where Jayde Riviere, who has developed as a strong right-back, was missing due to injury. Throughout the season, she performed immensely as a key defensive and attacking player.

The Premier League

Colligo strips out results that don’t involve teams with both men and women’s representation and looks at the PL from that standpoint. However, there were no twists and turns in the final standings with the same top four as the actual PL.

The Colligo Top Four

The Colligo Challenge showed a complete reversal from the PL between Liverpool and Chelsea. Liverpool have a talented women’s team but not strong enough to boost the men’s champions finish. Totally the opposite for Chelsea. The women were supported by a strong men’s finish. Will Chelsea show total Colligo dominance in 2025/26? Arsenal showed consistency with 2nd place finishes in both leagues, but Chelsea’s women were so dominant that Arsenal just couldn’t push them leaving a seven point gap in the end. City were not quite as strong as Arsenal but if Chelsea, Arsenal and City show combined strong place finishes for 2025/26, then it could be tight.

One response to “The Four Tops”

  1. […] On a more serious note, the men’s team won the Europa League this season. Despite this achievement, both the men’s and women’s teams had challenges. Each team will need to step up significantly as they had poor performances in their respective leagues. […]
